What an honour to create a welcome video for this year’s Vancouver International Film Festival on behalf of xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səlilwətaɬ Nations, the three host nations of what is colonially called “vancouver.” In “We Are Still Here,” the represented community members came together to celebrate their connections to each other, the land, their ancestors, and the future.
On the heels of the National day for Truth and Reconciliation, ten years after the TRC launched it’s final report (and still only 14 of the 94 calls to action have been completed), our Drawing Wisdom team is hoping this video quietly speaks to some of the deeper, underlying issues of occupation.
May this video serve as a reminder to settlers that we ALL have responsibilities to uphold care for the land and behave as good, uninvited guests. Please feel free to share widely!
We are grateful for all the support to date we have received to do this decolonizing work. If you want to support our current projects you can find out more on our Support Us page.
